To avoid suffering from physical injuries, we decided to list some tips on how to lift heavy boxes safely:
- Examine the box that you will be lifting. Pick up one corner so you can gauge how heavy it is. Try to push it with your foot so you can assess if you will be needing the help of another person/dolly/equipment to lift the box. Also check if there are weak spots or holes that can cause items to fall out while you’re still carrying the box.
- Plan your route. Make sure that there is nothing standing on your way before you lift the heave box. If there are toys or other objects that might cause you to trip over, remove them. Take note of uneven floors and stairs as well.
- Stand beside the box that you need to carry. Place your feet shoulder-width apart, tighten those abdominal muscles and bend both hips and knees until you’re in a squatting position. Look ahead, reach down to the object, and slowly lift it up. Don’t slouch because this will cause back and shoulder pains.
- Slightly bend your knees. Aside from following a breathing rhythm while carrying the heavy load, it’s also important that you keep your knees slightly bent. This will help prevent dizziness.
