Tiger Tail Cucumbers, Holothuria hilla, are native to the Atlantic waters off the coasts of the Americas. This cucumber tends to find secluded areas within the sand bed and Live Rock. The cucumber will emerge after dark in search of a meal. It uses a blunt mouth structure to consume uneaten food and other organic matter from the sand bed. This sand sifting behavior helps to keep the sand bed from developing anaerobic pockets. Cucumbers have the ability to deter harassing fish by releasing a number of their internal organs. Regeneration of the lost parts occurs in nature but has a lower chance of success in an aquarium environment. CAUTION: May excrete poison membranes if it dies. In the event of death do several large water changes and place carbon in a net mesh bag near a filter source to help remove toxins.
