Moving is quite stressful and you need all the help you can get. Here are some tips to avoid getting scammed by people who are disguise themselves as movers just to get plenty of cash from you:
- Do Your Research
Which moving companies take pride in doing quality work? Ask your friends and relatives if they have recommendations. Also ask them about moving companies that you should steer clear from. If the company has a list of references, call those references and ask them to give you their honest opinion about the company. As you go about your informal research, filter out moving companies that have countless complaints because you shouldn’t be working with them.
2. Ask for an Estimate
Once you have your top three options, call them and ask for an estimate. To avoid getting scammed, drop by their office, tell them about the number of things that need to be moved, size, and the address of your new location. When they hand you a piece of paper that shows the estimate, ask them to sign it.
3. Attention to Detail
Don’t sign the contract without reading. Make sure that you have read, and that you agree with the things that are stated in the contract. This will save you from a lot of trouble in the long run. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
4. Strictly Follow the Delivery Date
Once the items are picked up, you need to stick to the delivery date to avoid suffering from additional storage costs. This is the very reason why it’s important that the new place is ready to accept your items because delays will cost you more money.
Before hiring a moving company, make sure that they have all the necessary licenses and certificates. If they don’t have a license, then there’s something wrong with that company.
